John 6,12-13

When they had enough he said to the disciples, ‘Pick up the pieces left over, so that nothing is wasted.’ So they picked them up and filled twelve baskets with scraps left over from the meal of five barley loaves.

I may enjoy what I think I have for me myself. When, however, I give it up and entrusted it to the hands of Jesus the Lord, many people, not just I, may be given whole a lot more than what I initially have (or was given, more precisely speaking). Jesus asks me. But, I have to respond.

O that my people would heed me,
that Israel would walk in my ways!
At once I would subdue their foes,
turn my hand against their enemies.
(from Psalm 81)

What relevance does reciting this passage of the Psalms have in present days? It is because the same enemies of Israel still exist today. The Egyptians and the Canaans in the Old Testament represent the life according to flesh. Even this day, my concupiscence lurks ever anew. Only when I heed the Lord, he will give grace against my enemy.
